न हृष्यति · na hṛṣyati
does not exult
न द्वेष्टि · na dveṣṭi
does not hate
न शोचति · na śocati
does not grieve
न काङ्क्षति · na kāṅkṣati
does not crave

Who neither exults nor hates, neither grieves nor craves, who has let go of both the pleasant and the unpleasant — whoever is full of devotion is dear to me.

Original plain-language translation

Four stillnesses — no manic joy, no hatred, no grief, no craving — describe the devotee's even heart. This echoes the steady-wisdom portrait of 2.56–57, now crowned with devotion rather than reached by analysis alone.
