Why does fruit-renunciation matter? Because fruits bind: pleasant, painful, and mixed results ripen for the grasping agent after death. The renouncer, having claimed nothing, inherits nothing — freedom from the karmic ledger. Compare 4.20 and 5.12 on abandoning fruits and attaining peace.
