The happiness that deludes the self both at first and afterwards, arising from sleep, sloth, and heedlessness — that is declared tamasic.

Original plain-language translation

Tamasic pleasure never becomes nectar — delusion at the start, delusion at the finish. Oversleep, idleness, and intoxication or carelessness feel like rest but corrode capacity. The guṇa catalogue of happiness closes with this bleak constancy.
