सञ्जय उवाच ।तं तथा कृपयाविष्टमश्रुपूर्णाकुलेक्षणम् ।विषीदन्तमिदं वाक्यमुवाच मधुसूदनः ॥

Madhusudana (Krishna)

Sanjaya said: To him, overcome with pity, his eyes swimming with tears, despondent — to him Madhusudana spoke these words.

Original plain-language translation

Chapter 2 opens on the exact image Chapter 1 closed with: the collapsed archer. Krishna's first response is about to sound harsh — but note the tenderness of the staging first. The teaching begins only when the student has fully fallen.
