lamentation, cause for grief

Beings are unmanifest in the beginning, manifest in the middle, O Bharata, and unmanifest again in the end. What cause for lament is there in this?

Original plain-language translation

Life as an interval of visibility between two mysteries — the verse asks us to locate grief's object precisely. We mourn the visible middle passing, yet the middle was always a loan between unknowns. Lament, Krishna suggests, misplaces the miracle.
