Sanjaya said: Having spoken thus to Hrishikesha, Gudakesha the scorcher of foes declared to Govinda, 'I will not fight' — and fell silent.

Original plain-language translation

'I will not fight' — the gauntlet thrown at the Lord's feet, followed by silence. Arjuna has said his last word as his own master; from here he listens. The silence after defiance is the Gita's true beginning.
