आशापाशशतैः · āśāpāśaśataiḥ
by hundreds of nooses of expectation
बद्धाः · baddhāḥ
bound
कामक्रोधपरायणाः · kāmakrodhaparāyaṇāḥ
devoted to craving and anger
ईहन्ते · īhante
they strive
कामभोगार्थम् · kāmabhogārtham
for the enjoyment of desires
अन्यायेन · anyāyena
by unjust means
अर्थसञ्चयान् · arthasañcayān
hoards of wealth

…bound by a hundred nooses of expectation, devoted to craving and rage, they scramble to pile up wealth by unjust means, for the feeding of their desires.

Original plain-language translation

Hope itself becomes bondage when multiplied without limit — pasha means a snare. Anger follows craving as its guard dog, exploding when wants are blocked. Unjust gain is presented as the natural economy of this mindset.
