दुःखयोनयः · duḥkhayonayaḥ
wombs of suffering
आद्यन्तवन्तः · ādyantavantaḥ

कौन्तेय · kaunteya

Pleasures born of contact are wombs of suffering, with beginning and end, O son of Kunti. The wise do not delight in them.

Original plain-language translation

Sense pleasures are diagnosed by their expiry dates: whatever starts and stops cannot satisfy. Calling them birthplaces of pain is deliberately stark. Wisdom is shown as refusal, not indulgence.
