अनाश्रितः · anāśritaḥ
not depending on
कार्यम् · kāryam
what ought to be done
करोति · karoti
does
योगी · yogī
yogi
निरग्निः · niragniḥ
without sacred fire
अक्रियः · akriyaḥ
without activity

The Blessed Lord said: One who does the work that ought to be done, not depending on its fruit — he is a renouncer and a yogi, not one who merely gives up the fire or all activity.

Original plain-language translation

Chapter 6 redefines renunciation for the last time: it is motive, not ritual absence, that counts. Dropping the fire without dropping craving changes nothing. True sannyasa is dutiful action without dependence on reward.
