यज्ञशिष्टाशिनः सन्तो मुच्यन्ते सर्वकिल्बिषैः ।भुञ्जते ते त्वघं पापा ये पचन्त्यात्मकारणात् ॥

yajñaśiṣṭāśinaḥ santo mucyante sarvakilbiṣaiḥ |bhuñjate te tv aghaṃ pāpā ye pacanty ātmakāraṇāt ||

The good, who eat what remains after sacrifice, are freed from all evils. But the wicked, who cook only for their own sake, eat sin itself.

Original plain-language translation

Eating the remnant means receiving life as prasad — leftover grace — after offering first. Cooking only for oneself pictures the whole self-enclosed life. The contrast is stark: shared food liberates, hoarded food condemns.
