From food beings come forth; from rain comes the growth of food; from sacrifice comes rain; and sacrifice arises from action.

Original plain-language translation

The famous chain links dinner-table ecology to ritual and back: food, rain, sacrifice, work. Human action and cosmic weather are one circulation, and the next verse traces the chain one link further to Brahman. Nothing stands alone; everything feeds everything.
