न प्रहृष्येत्प्रियं प्राप्य नोद्विजेत्प्राप्य चाप्रियम् ।स्थिरबुद्धिरसम्मूढो ब्रह्मविद्ब्रह्मणि स्थितः ॥

na prahṛṣyet priyaṃ prāpya nodvijet prāpya cāpriyam |sthirabuddhir asammūḍho brahmavid brahmaṇi sthitaḥ ||

न प्रहृष्येत् · na prahṛṣyet
should not rejoice excitedly
प्रियम् · priyam
the pleasant
प्राप्य · prāpya
having obtained
न उद्विजेत् · na udvijet
should not be disturbed
अप्रियम् · apriyam
the unpleasant

Getting what is pleasant, he does not exult; getting what is unpleasant, he is not disturbed. Steady in intellect, undeluded, the knower of Brahman stands in Brahman.

Original plain-language translation

Steadiness is tested at both pleasant and unpleasant arrivals. Neither excites nor shakes the knower. This even temper is the outward sign of the inward resting of 5.19.
